What is Sheet Molding Compound (SMC)? Sheet Molding Compound (SMC) is a high-strength, fiber-reinforced thermoset composite material, delivered in a ready-to-mold sheet form. At Kaerda, our SMC is primarily composed of high-quality thermosetting resins (such as Unsaturated Polyester – UP, or specialized Epoxy for demanding applications), precisely chopped glass fibers (GF), and carefully selected fillers and additives.

Our formulations are enhanced with various functional additives, including low-profile additives for superior surface finish and dimensional control, pigments for in-mold color, mold release agents for efficient processing, and catalysts to control curing characteristics. This results in a stable, highly moldable material engineered for producing complex, high-performance components.

Kaerda develops and manufactures its SMC in-house, ensuring complete control over quality and formulation. Our dedicated SMC production lines process these compounds into continuous sheets, typically sandwiched between polyethylene films for ease of handling and storage.
